I grew up in Richland County, Il - German Twp (Stringtown area). Now live in
Arizona. Am writing a history of my family and have a question on the historical
name of Stringtown. Somewhere in all the various writings I’ve come across on
various websites about the county’s history, I seem to recall that Stringtown
had a name change at one time, where the name was changed to “Eden” (guessing
here as I’m not certain of this alternate name”), but then the name was
subsequently reverted back to Stringtown. Am thinking this took place back in
1830s, maybe? Not sure.
My problem is I cannot find this story again,
now, and would like to add it to my family’s history book. Can you point me to
where that story of the name-change can be found, or otherwise tell me where I
might search?
Thanks in advance. Like this site. You guys have done a
nice job with it. Just referenced one of the bios in my family story. Great!!

Hi, My name is Valerie Boehne, and I live in El Paso, IL. I just started to become in my genealogy. My great-grandfather/grandmother were Edward & Hulda RICHARDSON. Edward was the editor of the Olney newspaper in the early 1900s. I have numerous information about Edward/Hulda on Find a Grave and FamilySearch.com. I found my 2nd great grandparents on Find a Grave - Thomas H & Eliza Jane RICHARDSON. I am interested if anyone has specific information and sources on Thomas H.'s birth and his parents. I did a two week trial with Ancestry and they connected me to a Thomas and Henrietta (JARBOE) RICHARDSON but gave no source. Can anyone help me with this inquiry? Thanks! Nancy Ann Bullard, born 1798 in NC, daughter of John Bullard Jr.; died 1876, in Olney, Richland county, Illinois. She married Thomas Shields [he died in 1830]; William Lynch [he died in Lawrence Co. 1835]; and Ransom Higgins [he died in 1850]. These photos belonged to her daughter, Mary Melissa Shields, who married John P. Butler in Olney 1844. She was related to dozens of families in Richland County including Bullards, Stewarts, Ratcliffs, Shields, Lynchs, LaFoes, etc.
The first and last photo were taken at Jacob Rush Studio in Olney. The photo of the woman was taken at Bush Studio in Olney.
If you know any of the people in these photos, or have an idea about their identity, please let us know.

Taken c. 1900, unidentified woman may be related to the Vannasdallen or
Shirley families of Richland County. Ann's SHIRLEY family lived/died in
Parkerburg. Her gr-gr-gr grandmother Sarah Anna Vannasdallen SHIRLEY looks
similiar to this woman, so maybe they were sisters. Or this woman could
possibly have been a sibling to Sarah's husband David Ambrose Shirley. Both
Sarah and David were born ca 1850.
If anyone can identify this
woman, or recognizes anything about this picture, please let us know.

This photo may be of a church group or youth group. It is in poor condition, and was found in the bottom of a box, subject to the ravages of time and a bit of water over the years. If you can help with identification, please let us know.
This postcard style photo was included in a scrapbook of Olney pictures. Anyone with an old City Directory from the early 1900's have a listing for the Hall Miller Oil company? Maybe any information on the owners?
Contributed by Scott Burow. These two photos were in a box of that belonged to his Grandmother (Dorothea McFarland) and Great Grandmother (Florence Ratcliffe) of Olney. The Miller family is connected to his Ratcliff family. It's likely that this Miller may be a distant relative of his family.
